A Swedish prank/social experiment group decided to see what would happen if people witnessed domestic abuse in a confined space, like an elevator. Would they intervene, comment, stop it? Most people would like to think that they would do something about it — but the results of this experiment show that this is an unlikely outcome.
The video shows a male actor pretending to abuse, physically and verbally, a female actor as people watch…and then walk away. The group, STHLM Panda, says that of the 53 people who entered the elevator, only one woman stepped in to intervene.
Though most ignored the obvious “abuse,” at the end of the video one woman steps in and says, “If you touch her, I’m going to call the police.”
Aside from that, the closest the “couple” received to an intervention was one woman who bravely asked them to stop fighting until she has left the elevator. “I’m here, too. Please let me get off first,” the woman said.
