Keith Claxon, a 44-year-old homeless man in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was in for a surprise two weeks ago when 19 year old Kristopher Kirtland and friends approached him with the offer of a lifetime: free food, clothes, a haircut, and a skydiving trip.
Kirtland told KRDO that he hoped for “An eye-opening experience… that would hopefully give [him] a push to succeed in other areas of his life.” And an eye-opening experience it was – for the first time in his life, Claxon would ride in an airplane… and then jump out of it.
After a haircut and a clothes shopping trip (complete with a suit, ties, and dress shirt for Keith’s job hunt), the group was off to Denver to hop a plane! Keith was excited about his adventure, and said that it was “fantastic.” The last thing he said before he jumped, according to the guys who made this possible, is “I hope this gives me courage in other areas of my life.”
The experience seems to have galvanized Claxon’s spirit. He says he hopes to have a job in one month, and has no plan of giving up. “A lot of people, they give up before they even had a chance. All they had to do was go just one more step closer, they were inches away and they could have done it,” said Claxon.
Keith regularly checks his e-mail at the library, if you would like to send him messages of encouragement.
The folks at MediaOverload posted an update, saying that they “hooked him up with an interview,” and that he should be getting a job shortly.
