You know how you’re always complaining about having to listen to Tea Party wackos, deranged Republican senators, and homophobic-racist-Bible thumping GOP surrogates on the news? Well, crack open the Cristal, put your feet up, and tune into MSNBC, my friends, because Reince Priebus just banned anyone and everything having to do with GOP from appearing on the network over a tweet that pointed out the inbred racism of the Grand Old Party. Who knew that’s all it would take?
A since deleted tweet from MSNBC on January 29th that read “Maybe the right-wing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww: the adorable new #Cheerios ad w/ biracial family,” has prompted the Republican National Committee chairman to ban “all RNC staff from appearing on, associating with, or booking any RNC surrogates on MSNBC.”
Priebus went on further to call out certain MSNBC hosts by name, and accuse the network of having on ongoing problem with making controversial remarks.
[box type=”shadow”]MSNBC hosts—including Alec Baldwin, Martin Bashir, Melissa Harris-Perry, Alex Wagner, and Ronan Farrow just to name a few—have had a troubling streak in the last several weeks of making comments that belittle and demean Americans without furthering any thoughtful dialogue. Perhaps it’s time for the executives at MSNBC to consider whether their network is upholding a meaningful journalistic mission.
This is more than just a tweet or an offhand comment. This is part of a pattern of behavior that has gotten markedly worse, and until Phil Griffin personally apologizes and takes corrective action, we cannot be part of this network’s toxic programming.[/box]
Of course, Priebus neglected to draw attention to the stem of sewage coming out of the GOP, including such classics as:
- The right wing erupting into a tidal wave of racism over Subway partnering with Michelle Obama
- The Iowa GOP Facebook page posting racist memes
- A Republican Ohio city council member sending out racist emails
- Megyn Kelly of Fox News telling the children of the world that Santa and Jesus are white
- An aide for Scott Walker threatening to choke a hispanic janitor
- A conservative commentator comparing Obama to a “Grown-up Trayvon”
- Sarah Palin calling the federal debt the same thing as slavery
The list goes on, but you get the point I think.
And the video referenced by MSNBC, the one at the heart of this entire
awesome statement from Priebus controversy? It was a Cheerios ad depicting a bi-racial couple and their child that forced General-Mills to turn off the comments on the video because of the vile, racist comments being written by the right wing.
The pot called, Reince. It left a message. You’re black.
Check out this video from The Fine Brothers, as “Kids React” takes on the commercial that caused such a stir, and watch it until the end, because there’s a powerful moment you don’t want to miss.
