Recently, Joe the Plumber made some very, very stupid statements regarding the UCSB shooting. After informing victims’ families that “your dead kids don’t trump [his] Constitutional rights.” After facing harsh criticisms, including a scathing statement from Erica Lafferty, daughter of one of the 26 Sandy Hook victims, Joe doubled down on his insane remarks and, in typical faux plumber fashion, added a bit to the cavalcade of crazy that is…pretty much everything Mr. Wurzelbacher writes or says. On thursday, Joe wrote, “Guns are mostly for hunting down politicians who would actively seek to take your freedoms and liberty away from you.”
It seems that some may be listening to what Mr. Plumber has to say. Also on Thursday, a West Virginia man was arrested and charged after he called and threatened to shoot people in the Capitol Hill office of Sen. Jay Rockefeller(D), one of those “gun-grabbing liberals” Joe referenced (Rockefeller has an ‘F’ rating from the NRA).
At 12:30 p.m., Alan Anderson, 55, called the Senator’s office and threatened to shoot 10-12 people. He was arrested at his home in Logan County without incident and charged with retaliation against public officials and terroristic threats.
While Joe’s words may or may not have inspired this particular person’s actions–his motives have not yet been released–the timing of an influential right-wing figure’s suggestion that guns be used to mow down politicians who support reasonable gun regulations and Anderson’s threats is very convenient, a minimum.
