Jon Meis, the college student who stopped the seattle Pacific University shooter with pepper spray and quick thinking as the gunman reloaded, is in for a bit of a surprise. The internet has taken a liking to the man who prevented Aaron Ybarra from harming more people, and gifts and donations are flooding in for the soon-to-be-married hero.
The internet discovered Meis and his fiance Kaylie Sparks’ wedding gift registries at Target and Crate and Barrel–and you know what that means. Every single gift on the list at Crate and Barrel has been purchased, and the Target list is moving along nicely.
An ESPN Seattle producer wanted to do a little more for the man who stopped the SPU gunman, so she set up a GoFundMe account. Jessamyn McIntyre has managed–so far–to raise over $38k for the happy couple’s future. The page is filled with supportive comments and messages thanking Meis for his bravery.
Because of Meis, only one life was lost because of a dangerous, gun-toting individual.
In the end, Meis has not only saved lives, but has proven the NRA’s claim that a “good guy with a gun” is not necessary to stop a shooter. All you need is someone brave enough to stand up and fight for those around him. We would like to thank Mr. Meis for his quick thinking and selflessness in ensuring the safety of those around him.
