First thing: The 1-year-old baby in question is recovering and will probably be fine. Just know that before you read the following story.
Murfreesboro, Tn. — On late Sunday night, police responded to a 9-1-1 call from a downtown apartment complex. The caller reported hearing a single gunshot next door in the midst of a heated argument between a woman and her boyfriend.
At some point during the argument, the confrontation turned physical. Physical, in the sense that the woman pulled out a 9mm handgun. There are no details as of right now on what led up to her pulling the gun. She may have been acting in self-defense, or she may not have been.
Though the fact that when she fired, she struck him square in the penis, may be somewhat telling.
The 9mm round passed completely through the man’s crotch and came out the other side — we don’t know where on his body it came out, but we’ve got a pretty good guess. but we don’t have to guess where it went from there — into the right buttock of her 14-month-old baby, who was laying on the floor several feet behind him.
Fortunately for the baby, the round had lost enough energy passing through his father’s sibling-making-bits that the bullet didn’t do much damage when it impacted. The extent of the child’s wound isn’t clear, but authorities say he’s “recovering.”
No names have been released yet, and police are still investigating. The boyfriend remains in the hospital and is expected to survive.
No charges have been filed yet, though police will file charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon if they determine she was not acting in self-defense.
