There’s a crisis at the border–and, no, it’s not the Central American refugee children right-wingers want to ‘splode with land mines. The problem is with the independent paramilitary groups patrolling the border, seeking brown people at whom they can point their guns.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, the rumors of open carry advocate and totally-not-racist-guy-who-just-wants-to-shoot-“Mexicans” Chris Davis‘ army of xenophobic scumbags are true. The Express-News has obtained over 30 photos showing these ammosexuals carrying semi-automatic rifles and decked out in masks, camouflage, and tactical gear.
A spokesperson for the militia group, which has grown to more than ten active “teams” between El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley despite warnings from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and lawmakers, provided the photos under the condition that faces be blurred for fear of being identified by “cartel and gang members.”
The photographs show the militia groups posing at their camps and on patrol, displays of heavy weaponry, and all the fun associated with hanging out in the desert hoping for a chance to shoot someone. In one photo, militiamen can be seen getting directions from a Border Patrol agent.
In many of the photos, members are proudly displaying their Gadsden flags, the adopted symbol of the Tea Party and other right-wing extremist groups (and the same one Bundy Ranch supporters Jerad and Amanda Miller draped over the fallen bodies of the two police officers they murdered while attempting to start the “revolution”), as well as the modified American flag with the roman numeral III that has been largely adopted by the Oath Keepers and the Three Percenters, two groups that spent considerable time defending racist welfare cowboy Cliven Bundy’s “right” to keep his cattle on food stamps.
Democratic Senator Leticia Van de Putte has been very outspoken in her condemnation of these roving bands of hatemongers. “Local law enforcement and federal Border Patrol agents have been clear. The presence of these outside independent militia groups does nothing to secure the border; it only creates an unsafe situation for law enforcement officials that are protecting our communities. Unfortunately, the vile rhetoric of my opponent inspires misguided efforts,” she said.
Unfortunately, this madness will continue until these people are universally condemned–something that is unlikely, as the GOP will not willingly alienate what little base it has left. For groups that condemn Islamic extremists, though, they sure don’t have a problem looking and acting like them!
