The Republican candidate for governor in Texas, Greg Abbott has decided that it will be good for his campaign to have draft dodging, loud mouthed, misogynist Ted Nugent in his corner, calling him his “blood brother” and “friend.” He says that he needs Ted to expose Wendy Davis and her gun grabbing agenda.
Although Davis has spoken out to say that she thinks that open carry laws should come from the local level, Abbot and his supporters claim that is a lie to distract from her “phony” biography and her record of calling for background checks at gun shows. Apparently the NRA feels that having to submit to a background check to assure the public that one is not a criminal or mentally ill is too much of an imposition on “law abiding” citizens attempting to purchase a firearm.
At a recent campaign event, he said that he needed Nugent on his team because, “Senator Davis knows she is suffering with voters because of her flipping and flopping on Second Amendment gun laws, and she knows that Ted Nugent calls her out on her disregard for Second Amendment rights. We are going to expose Senator Davis’s weaknesses on the Second Amendment and show that in this area and in so many other areas, she represents the liberalism of Barack Obama that is so bad for Texas.”
“Wendy Davis has been more associated with Barack Obama than anybody in the state.,” he went on to say. “I don’t think there is anybody in the state that is disliked more than Barack Obama. If there’s this effect-by-relationship they want to trump up, then that’s a game that will be to the detriment of the Davis campaign because of their ties to Barack Obama.”
Of course, there are apparently quite a few in the state who do not hate the President as much as Abbott would like to think, he did garner over 41% of the popular vote in that state in the 2012 election. He also referred to Nugent as, “the epitome of what our founding fathers wanted as a representative.”
Nugent is still at it with his attacks on the President, exposing nothing except his own racist attitudes when he recently said during an interview for Guns.com, “I have obviously failed to galvanize and prod, if not shame, enough Americans to be ever vigilant not to let a Chicago communist-raised, communist-educated, communist-nurtured subhuman mongrel like the ACORN community organizer gangster Barack Hussein Obama, to weasel his way into the top office of authority in the United States of America.”
Abbott is not alone in defending Nugent. Newt Gingrich told Wolf Blitzer Tuesday on The Situation Room on CNN, “I always love selective media outrage. As the party of Hollywood, the Democrats have lots of donors and supporters who say truly stupid things. Truly outrageous things.”
Ted as always is completely oblivious to the disgust he inspires in so many and tweeted just before the campaign appearance on Tuesday:
Proudly campaigning for the great TX AG Greg Abbott for TX governor
