Called “Nevadan’s Resource Rights Bill,” this ominous piece of ALEC-backed legislation is one step in a process that I outlined last year, and would prevent the Federal Government from owning land in Nevada.
If you were upset at ISIS for destroying the Sumerian statues in Iraq, wait until you see what Koch Capitalists do to Native American heritage sites if this bill gets passed.
As if that weren’t a bad enough deal, Clive Bundy’s family is throwing in with it — because of course they are; the man stole more than $1 million of your tax dollars and he’s going to weasel out of paying you any way possible.
A long-time supporter of Cliven Bundy sponsored the bill: State Assemblywoman Michelle Fiore (R-of course). Under the law, the federal government would be unable to own land without expressed permission of state lawmakers.
One wonders what this means for Area 51/The Groom Lake Facility, which isn’t very far to the north of Las Vegas.
Here’s a recap about what I said on this last year, about a similar piece of legislation called AB227:
The whole purpose of this act is to give the states carte blanche to carry out a land grab against the federal government. It’s just one of many ALEC-written pieces of so-called “model legislation” that serve a similar purpose: the Resolution Demanding that Congress Convey Title of Federal Public Lands to the States and the Eminent Domain Authority for Federal Lands Act all intend to strip or otherwise remove federal protection from land and hand that land over to the states. Several states already have laws like this in place.
Back then, it was pretty obvious that, if not part of some grand scheme, he was certainly a tool that fit well within it (since I’m not one given to conspiratorial thinking, I’m leaning the latter; Bundy is a case of “right place, right time,” magnified by the right-wing media). Bundy didn’t start this, but he did bring it into the daylight.
And he’s doing it again. According to the Ralston Report, Bundy’s son, Ammon, sent out a letter to supporters that called on them to march on the state capital, Carson City, to support the bill.
In his letter, Ammon Bundy said that:
“With all of your efforts the impossible is happening. The Nevadan’s Resource Rights Bill (NRR) has been given a bill number (AB408) and will go before the Resource Committee on March 31st. This is a tremendous accomplishment, one that could not have been achieved without your actions. We started out thinking that if a group of people would act together in unity we could make a real difference. So far each of you have proven this to be correct. THANK YOU!”
The bill is an “outgrowth” of Fiore’s support for Bundy, which dates back almost a year, to when Bundy gathered his ragtag band of anti-government terrorists.
Bundy’s racism is well-known; he can tell you stories about “the Negro.” Less well-known is Fiore’s racism, although she’s been in the press for it recently: she called an African-American colleague “colored” while claiming that racism is a relic of the past because our president is black.
She’s also not very bright: in February, she proposed a bill allowing more options for cancer patients, calling cancer a “fungus” that can be flushed from the body with salt water.
