In his opening monologue on The Daily Show Thursday night, Jon Stewart ripped into the GOP for its scare tactics on Ebola while at the same time showing no interest in doing anything to protect the American people from the things that are killing them.
After playing a video clip of Fox News’ Eric Bolling who expressed his fear that Ebola may sneak through our “porous border” or even worse, sneak through on the backs of ISIS fighters, Stewart quipped:
“Ebola on the backs of ISIS, it should sound terrifying, but how cute would that be? To see ISIS giving Ebola a piggy-back ride?”
Stewart went on to note that all the things that the right is telling us we should be terrified of have killed so few Americans, the number of deaths “could be counted on two Simpsons hands. The GOP is willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how drastic or expensive, to protect us from these dangers but when it comes to something like heart disease which kills 600,000 Americans every year, they are less than enthusiastic.
“Surely the federal government, having a sacred obligation to do whatever it takes,” Jon said, “to save American lives should take some action to prevent this heart disease.”
