No matter where you live, if your children attend the liberal indoctrination camps masquerading as public schools, the textbooks they use are very likely influenced by the decisions–good or bad–of fifteen people in Texas. Unfortunately for you, Texas is the second largest textbook purchaser in the country, as most other states leave that decision up to local districts.
As the second-largest buyer of school books, Texas enjoys the privilege of — for the most part — textbook publishers scrambling for a coveted (and lucrative) spot on Texas’ ‘buy’ list. Since these publishers want to please the fifteen individuals on the Texas state board, the Lone Star State’s opinions matter very much to them. Regrettably, this means that decisions made by these fifteen people will likely bleed over into your child’s education.
The Texas Board of Education has traditionally waged a war on facts. As former chair Don McLeroy once said, “Now we don’t have to burn books anymore. By simply rewriting American history, we can finally nip that ol’ chore in the bud.” Largely extreme conservatives, the Board had been fiercely battling to “teach the controversy” regarding evolution and climate change. Of course, rewriting history is important as well; the board’s agenda has also included the purging of Thomas Jefferson and any mention of the Age of Enlightenment from schoolbooks while focusing instead on more obviously Christian figures. This influential group has also repeatedly attempted to downplay the role of slavery in causing the Civil War and infected our children’s history books with lies and distortions.
If you think the recent and current Board is frightening, let’s take a look at some of the people who want to be on that board. Here’s a hint: Tea Party, Republican, Conservative, liberals are evil, No Common Core, We didn’t come from no monkeys, the government is brainwashing your children–oh and Socialism. It’s complete with fear-mongering, character assassination, and all the usual antics of conservatives when gathered in a mob.
