Lee Bright is a Tea Party candidate challenging Senator Lindsey Graham for his seat. Bright is your typical racist degenerate Tea Partier. He thinks Lindsey Graham is “too liberal” (seriously) and that able-bodied food stamp recipients who can’t find work shouldn’t eat!
He is still at it with his over the top rhetoric, this time taking his nullification theory to the next level and advocating for another civil war.
Actually, this is not really new for Bright, he has been calling for armed revolt for some time now. Bright believes that guns are the solution to just about everything – especially for bringing about his vision of what the U.S. should be. Standing on the steps of the South Carolina statehouse the state Senator said:
“If the Tenth Amendment won’t protect the Second, we might have to use the Second to protect the Tenth.”
This pronouncement was made as the Stars and Bars of the Confederacy flew in the wind behind him.
He has used this argument at other times as well, this is not new with Senator Bright, he made a similar statement at another rally earlier this year, basically his attitude is ‘If we don’t get our way we will shoot you.’
The tenth Amendment says that the powers not forbidden by the Constitution or granted to the federal government fall to the states, in Brights mind this means the people in general also may assume those powers.
To him states rights are the holy grail and he is willing to use violence to obtain it.
“The time for talk is over! We have got to be organized, we have got to participate in these elections, ’cause I’ve got to tell you, if we don’t, we might have to use the Second Amendment to defend the Tenth. And let me tell you, I want peace. Listen, peace is sweet, but it’s not so sweet for the chains of slavery.”
When he spoke those words one of his followers in the audience shouted, “Vote with guns!”
Bright has opined that the federal government is close to deciding that the “states are a lot of trouble” and may just dissolve them. There is no evidence that anyone has ever even suggested such a radical idea and of course there is no reason to suspect that anyone would, but that doesn’t stop a radical like Bright.
He says that the right to revolt was given to him by the founders who he claims used the rallying cry, “No king but Jesus.” during the Revolution. Of course that is another completely false claim, none of the founders ever said any such thing and while there were some religious groups who were known to use the phrase at the time it was not widespread.
One of his most insane claims is that the Republicans who have been elected to Congress have been bowing down to the demands of the Democrats and compromising with them.
What Congress is he talking about? Surely he does not mean the Congress which as tried more than 45 times to repeal the ACA and shut the government down when they were not able to do so.
Lee is almost a caricature of what we have come to recognize as the typical TEA party politician: a shameless, degenerate liar spewing violent and hateful rhetoric that his uninformed base wants to hear. This makes him a dangerous man, someone who might actually get elected in an area where this type of thought is all too common.
Where are we headed when there are people rallying behind someone like this because Lindsey Graham is “too liberal?”
