The footage, which Gawker obtained through a public records request, appears to show a belligerent Gregg Jarrett insulting the cops after his arrest. Jarrett, who was reportedly out of rehab at the time, is heard slurring his words and calling one of the officers a “fucking stupid ass.” Jarrett confronted a helmeted officer, who didn’t appreciate Jarrett’s blatant aggression and slammed Jarrett against the wall. When Jarrett remained defiant, the officer slammed Jarrett on a bench and told him to “stay down.”
Jarrett would later be booked at Hennepin County Jail.
It turned out that Jarrett, who requested time off from Fox News last month for “personal reasons,” was reportedly fresh out of rehab at the time of his arrest.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that police found documentation that Jarrett had just been released from an alcohol and chemical dependency treatment facility. Police also said they found three painkiller pills in Jarret’s pocket and suspected the anchor had mixed the drug with alcohol, according to the newspaper.
Police charged Jarrett with obstructing the legal process and interfering with a police officer, which is a misdemeanor. After his arrest, a FOX spokesperson said that Jarrett was “dealing with serious personal issues at this time” and it was up in the air whether he’d be returning to the network.
