If ever there was a place you could feel safe to be at least a little homophobic in your rhetoric, it’s the Christian Broadcasting Network. CBN is the network that televangelist extraordinaire Pat Robertson’s 700 Club is on. But it appears that even people who are used to hearing vile and bigoted language couched as religious speech have a limit on just how much bigotry that they can ingest. Or at least that’s the gambit that CBN management took when they decided to edit out some of the most simultaneously LOL-tastic and heartbreakingly ignorant bilge to come out of Robertson’s mouth about the LGBT community yet.
Speaking to Terry Meeuwsen, his co-host, Robertson let loose a canard that you really have to do a triple-take to believe. According to Patty, there’s a secret ritual going on in San Francisco and other gay meccas around the world that involves homosexuals intentionally infecting people with the HIV virus. Seriously. This is the stuff he’s pushing as fact, and has no idea just how ridiculous he sounds. Robertson said, “You know what they do in San Francisco, some in the gay community there they want to get people so if they got the stuff they’ll have a ring, you shake hands, and the ring’s got a little thing where you cut your finger,” and since in Patty’s mind HIV/AIDS is just part and parcel with the gay “lifestyle,” it’s a totally plausible story to him.

CBN management apparently is at least willing to pay lip service to the fact that we live in 2013 and not 1613 and they immediately edited out Robertson’s insane comments, and went so far as to have YouTube yank the clip that Right Wing Watch put up. Being that it’s the Internet though, they couldn’t keep all the clips from popping back up, so here now watch the clip that the Christian Broadcasting Network felt was too extreme for even their viewers, and let us know what you think!
