A group of African-American protesters gathered outside a St. Louis Cardinals game on Monday night in another attempt to bring more attention to the tragic murder of Michael Brown at the hands of Officer Darren Wilson. Apparently, St. Louis Cardinals fans are sympathetic to Officer Wilson, as well as horribly, horribly, racist.
As protesters made their voices heard outside the smoking area during the Cardinals/Dodgers playoff game, fans joined in the fun — if, by “fun,” we mean calling protesters jobless, chanting in support of Wilson, suggesting demonstrators go ‘back’ to Africa, and generally exhibiting all the traits that make for an exemplary application to their local Ku Klux Klan chapter.
In response to protesters, fans initially chanted “Let’s go Cardinals,” but that was not nearly bigoted enough for their tastes — so they switched it up to “Let’s go, Darren!” Fans then began chanting Wilson’s name loudly, as those assembled in the lung killing section hurled insults at demonstrators.
One man in a Cardinals jacket called a protester a “crackhead,” as others began to attempt to initiate fights with protesters — who did not accept the offer of violent confrontation.
“We’re the ones who gave all y’all the freedoms that you have!” a white woman shouted at the African-American protesters.
Numerous fans suggested that protesters get jobs and pull up their pants, and, at one point, they began chanting “Africa, Africa” — a suggestion that protesters “go back” there.
