It’s official, Tea Partiers have gone completely off the rails and lost their already tenuous grip on reality.
A group calling themselves the Constitutional County Project has decided that they no longer are subject to federal regulation, and that they have the right at the local level to decide when a federal law is unconstitutional and override that law.
The group’s website claims authority under the Federalist Papers to refuse to allow federal law to be enforced within their “Constitutional Counties” which they plan to set up beginning in Navaho County, Arizona. To that end, county officials will not cooperate with federal authorities to enforce such things as gun control laws, drug laws and rules pertaining to federal lands, nor will they allow federal agents to enforce laws that they have deemed unconstitutional.
In their mission statement they say:
“The mission of the Constitutional County Project is to re-assert the United States Constitution as the supreme law of the land, driven by active citizen engagement within the political process at the County level, to secure and protect the liberties of “We the People” without compromise.”
Richard Mack, former Graham County, Arizona Sheriff, two times congressional candidate, Libertarian and prominent member of the vigilante Oath Keepers, is a staunch supporter of the group and has promised to move to Navaho County before the next election so that he can run for Sheriff there and start to put the group’s plan into action.
“We’re going to try to make at least one county in America a complete and entire Constitutional county,” Mack says.
He says that this is the only way to “take back freedom” peacefully, suggesting that he is willing to spill blood if that is what it takes to overthrow the government. Of course, as a member of the Oath Keepers that comes as no surprise. They have long advocated violence to enforce their vision for the country. They were there for welfare cowboy Cliven Bundy and more recently sent armed vigilantes into Ferguson, Missouri to “protect” businesses from protesters demanding justice for Michael Brown.
