Few people on Earth could so magically destroy Rep. Trey Radel’s utter hypocrisy about drugs than could Stephen Colbert. On last night’s “The Colbert Report,” the masterful satirist plied his trade to the Florida congressman who just plead guilty to cocaine possession, subsequently given probation and a fine. Radel has decided to take “time off” and donate his salary to charity. Colbert’s wit was brought to full bear as he sarcastically defended Radel, claiming he was not a hypocrite after all.
“Folks, personally I hate to lose a congressman so fiscally conservative that I’m sure he snorted his blow through a one dollar bill,” Colbert said. But that wasn’t all the faux-conservative commentator had queued up for Radel. After pointing out Radel was in favor of testing welfare recipients for drug use, Colbert defended Radel as only he could.
“He’s not a hypocrite because he doesn’t get food stamps from the government; just his paycheck.”
