SNL opened Saturday’s show with a very moving tribute to the people of France, just one day after horrifying terror attacks rocked the city of Paris, killing 129 and injuring more than 300.
Cast member, Cecily Strong, did an amazing job of keeping her composure; though her voice shook, she never broke:
“Paris is the City of Light, and here in New York City, we know that light will never go out. Our love and support is with everyone there tonight. We stand with you.”
She then repeated the beautiful message in French.
The studio was so quiet you could hear a pin drop; the usual roar of laughter and applause was gone.
Strong then ended the opening monologue with the usual, yet somber:
“And now, live from New York, it’s Saturday night.”
