According to Rand Paul, the GOP is known for its civil rights record, which is one of the reasons he’s a proud Republican.
During an interview on CNN, host Candy Crowley asked the Senator from Kentucky if he’d ever consider joining another party, most likely in reference the current state of self-imposed destruction the GOP is experiencing.
“I just wonder if you see yourself being anything other than a Republican,” Crowley said.
“No, I’ve always been a Republican,” Paul replied. “And I’m actually one of those people who’s actually a real lover of the history of the Republican Party. Through the days of abolition, through the days of civil rights, the Republican Party has a really rich history.”
Paul went to say that he was proud of the fact that the Republicans were “the ones that overturned Jim Crow in Kentucky” fighting against an “entirely unified [Democratic] party.”
