Congressman Peter King (R-NY) attacked Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) while speaking to Jamie Colby on Fox News on Sunday in response to Paul’s efforts to launch a class-action suit against the NSA and the Obama administration.
Paul says that the NSA is looking at the records of everyone in the country and that this is comparable to the sort of thing that we fought the Revolutionary War about. He is calling for hundreds of thousands of people to sign on to a lawsuit to stop it.
King who was the former chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security and sits on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is not a fan of Senator Paul and was more than happy to share his thoughts on the matter with Colby saying,
[box type=”shadow”]“Rand Paul does not know what he’s talking about and, Rand Paul is really spreading fear among the American people.”[/box]
He went on to say that the NSA is, “doing exactly what it’s supposed to be doing.”
Commenting on Paul’s remarks on ABC earlier in the day King said,
[box type=”shadow”]”He also today, I understand on the show, he was also was comparing General [James] Clapper to [Edward] Snowden. To me, he’s either totally uninformed or he’s part of that hate America crowd that I thought left us in the 1960s. In any event, he doesn’t deserve to be in the United States senate for spreading that type of misperception and absolute lies to be honest with you.”[/box]
The congressman explained that the program Paul is referring to does not listen to anyone’s telephone conversations and, in fact, only gathers numbers of the calling party and the party who receives the call. He went on to say that if a known terrorist were to call a phone in the U.S. the information would have to be taken to the FISA court to obtain a warrant before any further action could be taken.
This sort of thing is the reason that many in his party call him a RINO and the reason that everyone else calls him the voice of reason — a very loud and outspoken voice.
