Pat Robertson has decided to rehash the discredited story that the AIDS epidemic started when the World Health Organization tried to create an oral vaccination against polio.
He had another theory recently, claiming that gay folks wear special rings to cut and infect others with AIDS. Apparently, that works better than sugar cubes.
Even though this idea of a contaminated vaccine has been discredited by different groups from four different countries, the fear and hatred toward gays overpowers science in too many people.
In this fable about the WHO and its failed polio vaccine, all the right elements are present: gays, Africa, educated albeit incompetent scientists and doctors, together with a disease straight from the animal kingdom.
Here is a philosophical question: if Robertson speaks, and the media ignores him, does he make a sound?
Unfortunately, yes. His followers who take his twisted faith as gospel.
