With all the practice the on air the crew at Fox News has had at apologizing for their frequently inappropriate remarks, we might expect that they would have learned how to at least make their apologies sound sincere even if they are not. Unfortunately on Tuesday morning’s Fox and Friends Brian Kilmeade proved once again that they cannot give a convincing apology.
On Monday, Kilmeade and co-host Steve Doocey joked about how Ray Rice might have avoided any punishment for having viciously beat his wife.
In the original discussion Doocey noted, “We should also point out, after that video — and now you know what happened in there — she still married him. They’re currently married.”
“Rihanna went back to Chris Brown right after,” Kilmeade agreed. “A lot of people thought that was a terrible message.”
“I think the message is take the stairs,” Kilmeade said, eliciting approving chuckles from his co-hosts.
In response to the negative feedback criticizing them for having made light of a serious situation, one that is in fact a crime, Kilmeade issued a 13 second “apology” on Tuesday.
“Comments that were made during this story made some feel like we are taking the situation too lightly,” he said. “We are not, we were not. Domestic abuse is a very serious issue to us, I can assure you.”
