It’s no secret that MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough has been extremely rough on Ted Cruz of late, slamming the Texas congressman for his antics that are clearly damaging the GOP brand.
But this Tuesday morning, Scarborough made a curious comparison — a comparison to another once-freshman senator from Illinois. Any guess who that was? You guessed it. But the Morning Joe host caught a little hell from his co-host Mika Brzezinski for the bizarre comparison.
Scarborough started out his rant by asking Morning Joe contributor Donny Deutsch to name “the major piece of legislation Barack Obama passed in the United States Senate that would suggest he knew how to work in the United States Senate, and would be an effective president of the United States?”
Scarborough was apparently making the point that both Obama and Cruz abandoned their roles as senators to build momentum for a presidential run.
No one on the panel was able to answer the question, but Brzezinski thought the proposition was irrelevant and let Scarborough know just that.
“The parallel with the president is unfair,” she asserted. “Can anyone name a president who passed health care? No. Can you name presidents who tried? Yes. No one has been able to do it.”
“Do you think people shouldn’t have access to health care?” she continued. “Can we get back to what this is about? Ridiculous. You can’t make a parallel between Ted Cruz and president Obama.”
The exchange begins at about 18:31 in the video below.
