Early this week Tom Cruise caused quite a stir when he stated that his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, “That’s what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal.” He also claimed, in typical Tom Cruise arrogance, that he trains harder than Olympic athletes, “There is difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I’ve spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film.” He adds, “A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I’m shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day.”
Fast forward a couple of days later. A new movie titled Lone Survivor, in which Wahlberg stars, is based on a book by Marcus Luttrell. Luttrell was the only survivor of the notorious SEAL Team 10 mission to capture and execute Taliban leader Ahmad Shah. During a Q&A session after the premier for Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg spoke up about the narcissistic remarks made by Cruise.
“For actors to sit there and talk about ‘Oh I went to SEAL training,’ and I slept on the — I don’t give a fuck what you did,” Wahlberg exclaimed. “You don’t do what these guys did. For somebody to sit there and say my job was as difficult as somebody in the military’s. How fucking dare you!. While you sit in a makeup chair for two hours!,” he continued “I don’t give a shit if you get your ass busted. You get to go home at the end of the day. You get to go to your hotel room. You get to order fucking chicken. Or your steak. Whatever the fuck it is.”
His statements really seemed to strike a chord as the crowd laughed and applauded Wahlberg for his bold, yet true words. Wahlberg later apologized for “losing his shit” and mentioned that he was proud to be a part of the film.
