Everyone’s favorite psycho Glenn Beck announced this morning that he has incontrovertible evidence that Obamacare is doomed. He says that only 51,000 people have created an account on the federal enrollment site and that most of them had not enrolled.
Beck’s source, MailOnline, cites two anonymous sources at HHS in its article and admits that they were unable to confirm these numbers with either the White House or Secretary of HHS, Kathleen Sebelius.
Of course, none of that matters to Beck. He is absolutely gleeful at what he sees as a massive failure, even if there is no truth to it whatsoever.
Beck said, “How many people have filed, in the first week, an application? Remember, it takes 7 million people in this system to keep it afloat, 51,000. 51,000. This according to the Daily Mail.”
His sidekick, Pat, chimed in with, “Yeah, because no American publication would never carry this, nobody was apparently interested in the story in the United States.”
Of course, there is no proof and probably no truth in this “report” Sebelius has said that HHS is going to compile the numbers on a monthly basis and will release them on that schedule.
Of course it also overlooks, probably intentionally, the state exchanges which are releasing numbers as they come in. The state numbers tell a different story and that would take away from what Glenn wants to believe.
The state exchanges report several hundred thousand accounts created and, as of now there are 144,045 people who have either applied or enrolled in a plan, with many more accounts created. It is not very likely that people who do not intend to purchase a policy are creating accounts. New York State alone has enrolled more than 7,000 over the 51,000 Glenn claims have enrolled in total.
In any case, we are talking about insurance policies which will not go into effect until the first of the year anyway so the numbers in the first two weeks are absolutely meaningless.
