As we know, Freedom Industries’ negligence, coupled with lack of regulation and enforcement, caused over 300,000 West Virginians in nine counties to be without usable water–unless they wanted to flush the toilet. As Stewart noticed after a hearty couple of gulps of his ‘West Virginia water,’ residents became concerned when their water caused diarrhea and uncontrollable vomiting. Of the licorace smell, Stewart asked, “were they fracking in Candyland?”
Stewart explained that the chemical plant was positioned upriver from the water treatment facility–but since it was in such a vulnerable position, it was highly regulated. Boy was he wrong! The tanks were last inspected in 1991. “1991?” asks Stewart, “That’s like six Batmans ago!”
Jon showed president Gary Southern’s half-hearted apology for the ‘inconvenience,’ but as Jon pointed out there is a positive aspect in all this: “On the plus side, look how much easier it is to fish now!”
