On Thursday’s Daily Show Jon Stewart hilariously mocked conservative arguments against raising the minimum wage.
He began by saying, “If it took you a little longer to get your ol’ Sausage McMuffin this morning, it wasn’t because this year’s sausage crop has suffered a particularly poor congeal.” It was because there was a one day strike yesterday by fast food workers in about 100 cities across the U.S. demanding a reasonable rate of pay.
He then ran a montage of right wingers explaining why it was a bad idea to increase the minimum wage which has not even kept pace with inflation over the last 4 decades:
“I’m a big fan of empowerment over entitlements. And these minimum wage jobs are not meant to be lifelong jobs. You’re supposed to get your foot in the door, and get skills.” Carol Roth (12/3/2013)
“If it’s all that good, why stop at $50? Let’s go to $100 bucks an hour!” Larry Kudlow (12/3/2013)
The best of all, “And why stop at $15? Why not raise the minimum wage to $100,000?” Spoken by a Fox Business Guest (7/29/2013)
This is typical of those who are dead set against anything which will benefit the working poor, they are against any form of government assistance and at the same time opposed to enforcing the “trickle down” economics which they support. It is not trickling down if all of the profits are going into the pockets of those at the top.
