Elizabeth Hasselbeck once again has proven she has no shame at all. The unctuous ham wallet who feels that contraception is like birthing a baby and abandoning it in the street and that waterboarding is not torture, had a few words for the poor today: if you have air conditioning and cell phones, you’re what’s wrong with America!
On Fox and Friends, Hasselbeck plugged a report by John Stossel, in which he exposes the horrible, ugly side of “entitlements”: Poor people might be able to place phone calls and not die of heat exhaustion in their own homes! She leads into a shameless clip of Stossel interviewing purported welfare recipients on the street by asking, “do these folks really need to be on welfare?” It cuts to clips of people answering the Moustachioed Moron’s question when he asks them if they have a TV: “Yeah, I have a TV…yes I have a television.” Hasselbeck followed the clip with, “John Stossel checking into that and exposing the ugly side of entitlements.” One guy even has *GASP* video games!
In a second clip, Stossel probes for cell phones, ignoring that through the Lifeline program, which began under Reagan, provides a phone with limited minutes to low income individuals–which would greatly skew statistics, if he were trying to accurately measure the number of welfare recipients who actually PAY for a cell phone. Of course, he is not attempting to do anything accurately, at all–so that’s all fine and dandy. Please–continue with the misinformation, if you will!
Hasselbeck doesn’t stop there, though! She shamelessly claims “In 35 states, the minimum wage there is less than what you can make being on welfare, so the motivation to get a job is just not there.” It should be noted that 40 states have time limits that can lead to the termination of benefits, but thank you for admitting the minimum wage is too low. Stossel goes on to claim that more people are on disability because it makes like easier. I’m sure it does…for a disabled person.
Watch the entire clip!
This is not the first time FOX has railed on the poor.
Other instances aside, in 2004 FOX covered very thoroughly that the poor in America are not as “poor” as they claim. Some even have refrigerators! And microwaves! Oh, and a STOVE! Those dirty underprivileged human beings have the GALL to cook food and enjoy minimal leisure! Why are they not sleeping in a tiny dirt-floored shanty and consuming rats for sustenance? Some even have VCRs–How dare they own something that has been obsolete since about 1999!
The network was blanketed with a campaign against the poor:
For instance, Bill O’Reilly (and most of FOX’s parade of imbeciles) cited the following Heritage Foundation “study“:
“How can you be so poor and have all this stuff?” O’Reilly asked. No, Bill–how can you be such a turd?
The poor owning a few items is such a pervasive issue that the Breitbart crew resurrected the “study” back in September!
Hey right wing media…and right wingers in general: stop hating the poor. It only makes you seem like nihilistic, awful, inhuman reprobates. I challenge any of you to live one month in a jobless, welfare recipient’s shoes: Find housing, feed your family–survive. Only then will you shirk off this delusion that the disenfranchised in our society are “leeching” off of you. Only then will you understand the importance of what you call “entitlements” in our society.
If anything, we need to make safety nets better! Institute a tapering benefit amount in the event of income increases instead of immediately cutting them, for instance! Nothing keeps an impoverished person trapped like kicking out the ladder as he or she moves up a rung!
