Jon Stewart sure was in fine form last night; maybe it was a bit too much coffee. Or chai, or latte…or whatever else they’re serving up in the Bullsh*t Mountain cafeteria this week. Indeed, Jon Stewart is all fired up about FOX’s latest #Lattesalute inanity, and the salute he sends back is a tad bit less respectful even than that.
The segment begins with a scathing indictment of Congress for on one hand declaring ISIS “the Greatest Threat Since Ever,” while on the other refusing to considering doing anything about it till well after mid-terms. You know, because America’s about to be destroyed by Ebola Muslims, but it’ll wait till we’re sure we’ve still got jobs. But the criticism doesn’t end there, because Jon turns it right back on Obama for getting us into the same mess we got into under Bush.
But it is for FOX Jon reserves his deepest degree of loathing. Because, amid all of this, what’s Rupert Murdoch’s biggest talking point? Obama exiting a helicopter, and saluting Marines with a cup of coffee in one hand while buttoning his jacket with the other.
In this clip, Jon shows various components of The Selective Outrage Machine (most notably Dick Cheney, whose Middle East strategy Obama is all but following to the letter) being pretend-angry about Obama’s supposed “disrespect” toward the troops with his #lattesalute. Stewart replies:
“You don’t really care about this. You have no principle about this. You’re just trying to score points in a game no one else is playing — and here’s how we know.”
Then followed footage from the very same show of Eric Bolling making his stunningly sexist “Boobs on the ground” comment about female fighter pilot Mariam Al Mansouri. The comment for which he has since apologized.
And Jon’s reaction to all this hypocrisy?
“F*ck you, and all your false patriotism.”
And that was just the beginning of the rant.
