Two young immigration activists Carmen Lima and Jennifer Martinez confronted John Boehner at a local diner today to ask him about supporting immigration reform.
“How would you feel if you had to tell your kids at the age of 10 that you were never coming home?” asked Lima. In a disconnected response before going back to his meal, Boehner replied “That wouldn’t be good.”
Lima continued to explain that her father is an illegal immigrant who could face deportation. Quickly jumping to his own defense, Boehner explained to the girls that he is trying to find some way to tackle the immigration issues.
“I’m trying to find some way to get this thing done,” Boehner rambled. “It’s, uh, you know, not easy — not gonna be an easy path forward, but I’ve made it clear since the day after the election that it’s time to get this done.”
During the conversation, Boehner appeared to be completely disinterested as he buttered his bread and gave a cold shoulder towards the very concerned and worried young girls. The video shows an unsympathetic reaction of a high-powered congressman to an issue that very much needs direct answers to. It is clear that Speaker Boehner feels these girls are beneath him and is out of touch with the people’s concerns as he demonstrated no compassion whatsoever.
Boehner told reporters in a press conference Wednesday that the House would not be taking up the Senate immigration reform bill.
“We have no intention of ever going to conference on the Senate bill.”
How can we expect our government to work for the people when they clearly don’t care about the people?
