You might ask yourself, “what kind of man would defend, Fred Phelps and his congregation of venomous gay bashers?” The answer, it turns out is quite simple, the same sort of man who would defend the likes of Terry “Let’s Burn Some Qur’ans Today” Jones, and his name is “Coach” Dave Daubenmire, the former high school football coach who liked to force his players to pray, whether they wanted to or not.
Dave is also the founder of Minutemen United, a group that describes itself as a group of, “Christian men who are willing to share the love, hope and promise of Jesus Christ regardless of the consequences. Minutemen United is men who have set Jesus Christ as their standard of behavior and source of wisdom.”
It wasn’t very long ago that Dave was garnering attention for his remarks when he said that he was, “sick and tired of being sodomized by the left. That’s the truth. Nobody else will say it. I just did. We are being sodomized by the left.” Sodomy seems to be a subject that Dave finds irresistible, he seems to be obsessed with the topic. Freud would be fascinated, no doubt.
This time around while gays are a part of his rant it is only tangential since what he is really doing is finding an extremely lame justification for the WBC’s vicious anti gay demonstrations, often at the funerals of soldiers killed in combat fighting to defend their right to say the hateful things that they say and to practice their warped brand of Christianity. According to “Coach” Dave, we should not judge them because we don’t know what led them to do it, he says, “what if God really told Fred Phelps to do that?” He goes on to say the same of Terry Jones.
Perhaps Dave might better ask himself, “What if the devil is telling them to do that?” What if he’s telling Dave to do what he is doing?
