Everyone’s favorite clown from Texas, “Loopy” Louis Gohmert has done it again! There is no reason to be surprised, every time he opens his mouth he proves that Lincoln was right when he said, “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.”
Louis latest bit of foolishness came when he guest-hosted a conservative radio show on Monday and interviewed Alan Keyes, another intellectually challenged ideologue. The results are amusing for those of us who are able to reason and who have actually taken the time to go out and check the facts, unfortunately, to those of the TEApublican persuasion these words are only an affirmation of what they already “knew.”
“Loopy” Louis told Keyes that he finds it “scary” that liberal elitists like Bill Gates are out there promoting vaccines for the general population in order to control and reduce our numbers. Alright, pretty goofy but then this is Louis Gohmert, can we expect anything else?
Keyes then weighed in saying that Gates, in 2009 had talked openly of “abusing” vaccines to reduce the population. He went on to say that liberals see humans as a “blight on the face of the planet” and that if they are allowed to have their way the only people left on the planet would be “these elitists and the people needed to service them.” Louis of course is in complete agreement.
To start with, Keyes doesn’t even have the right year. The TED talk he references was given in 2010 and while neither they nor any of the other right wing propaganda sites that carried this preposterous story actually “lied” about what was said, they sure didn’t tell the whole truth about it.
What Gates actually said in that talk was, “First we got population. The world today has 6.8 billion people. That’s headed up to about 9 billion. Now if we do a really great job on new vaccines, health care, reproductive health services, we lower that by perhaps 10 or 15 percent.” You will note that he did not say anything at all about using vaccines to control population growth. He mentioned vaccines but in the same sentence he clearly said reproductive health services. Besides, it’s the anti-vaccine crowd that winds up increasing disease, and death in the world.
This three or four minute segment out of a nearly 40 minute presentation has been widely distorted by the right wing propaganda machine, do a quick search for Bill Gates uses vaccines to control population and dozens of links come up all harping on this short few minutes out of 40 and every one of them twisting the facts beyond recognition. It is bad enough that the educationally challenged who are such great admirers of the TEApub arm of the party are following these sites and buying every word, but the very idea of a Congressman who is unable to discern what these sites have done is outrageous. We should expect much more from our Congressmen than that.
