Remember when Burger King introduced the “Proud Whopper?” And how vividly right-wing heads blew up, spraying hate-filed rainbow confetti in all directions?
Those right-wing heads aren’t done yet. The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer brought his own beef Friday, when he voiced his concern that the idea might spread, and that other Burger Kings might start honoring LGBT Pride events.
Taking to the airwaves to do what Christians like Fischer do best — complain, whine, and kvetch — Fischer said: “If this isn’t bottled up in San Francisco, this kind of nonsense, then it’s going to be spreading across the entire fruited plain. And you’re going to be going to your Burger King in Des Moines, Iowa and you’re going to have a rainbow color wrapper for your Whopper.”
I thought you people ate at Chik-Fil-A. Why are you whining about what happens at Burger King?
Fischer scoffed at the idea, and suggested that his group would try to do an “action alert” to protest to the company.
“I gotta tell you, I think this is a marketing mistake,” he said. “I think this is a bonehead move from a marketing standpoint. Because I gotta guarantee you, when people sit down to eat a hamburger, the last thing they want to be thinking about is two guys having sex.”
Because I’m sure that was on the minds of everyone who ordered it before you brought it up, Bryan.
