You would think that since The Daily Show with Jon Stewart has been around for so long now, politicians would at least demonstrate a little more resistance to being caught looking like outright hypocrites. You would think that since Stewart regularly feasts on the entrails of the most egregious in their duplicitous deeds, that our elected officials would do their best to not be caught saying or doing things that directly contradict their public persona or stated belief systems. For instance, if you’re a member of the House of Representatives from Florida who supported legislation in your home state that required drug testing welfare recipients, you should probably do your level best to not to get arrested for cocaine possession, right?
Well, someone should have told that to Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL) because last night Stewart dismantled the Florida Republican with jab after jab. There’s the fact that Radel’s Twitter feed proclaimed him as a “hip hop conservative,” which Stewart said was as logical as calling yourself a “smooth jazz anarchist.” There was the clip of Radel saying his favorite vacation spot was Cartagena, Columbia to which the veteran comedian simply asked, “Were there any signs?” And of course the fact that Radel supported Florida’s law that required welfare recipients to take a drug test before receiving any funds.
“No hypocrisy there, it’s not like he receives any taxpayer funds for his salary. Oh. Right.”
