WARNING: You may not be prepared — mentally, emotionally or grammatically — to handle the footwear references you are about to see in this video.
Even if you make it through FOX’s curb-stomping of reason, Colbert’s high-heel bit is still sure to Choo its way through your sole. We hope Stephen’s Prada himself — have Doc Martin forward your therapy bill to Nine West, Manhattan, if you feel so in-Kleined.
All right…bad shoe puns aside…this is kind of a fascinating exploration of changing the optics of war. Much like repainting San Diego Unified School’s MRAP to deliver teddy bears, President Obama has made quite a show of emphasizing “no boots on the ground” in fighting ISIS. Which feels pretty good to most Americans; we’ve been in a love affair with airpower since WWII.
Except…it isn’t exactly true. Already there are 1,600 soldiers with cleated feet in the dirt of the Middle East, ostensibly acting as military advisers. Now, most of us would be content to say “Well, he’s using boots on the ground as a metaphor for main Army units.” And that might or might not be correct, though it does go a long way to changing the optics of the thing.
FOX “News” though — they just can’t seem to shoe-horn their minds into any kind of understanding. With tongue wagging and ever the heel, FOX’s discussion (laced with invective as it is) seems all tied up with very concept of military occupation as a thing. Ah…but who are we to judge? We’ve never walked a mile in Hannity’s shoes; maybe we could spare a penny loafer for his thoughts.
Though, in all honesty, we’d prefer to Payless.
