Media Matters has put together a great Bill Nye/Stuart Varney clip mashup that utterly destroys Varney’s claim that because a helicopter can land on arctic ice, we must be experiencing global cooling.
The video begins with Stuart Varney making a well-informed and logical assessment of the global warming/global cooling debate: After 52 passengers were rescued via helicopter from a ship stuck in antarctic ice, Varney drew the conclusion that despite the mountain of evidence that it is happening–global warming simply cannot be true.
As Varney intelligently points out, if global warming was really happening why was a helicopter able to land on a patch of antarctic ice? If anything, according to Varney, we’re experiencing global cooling.
In an unrelated clip, Nye demolishes Varney’s argument without even trying. On the MSNBC’s the Ed Show, “The Science Guy” says:
[box type=”shadow”]The last 16 years have been the hottest ever, so this is consistent with models of climate change. The big hurricanes consistent with models of climate change. The big storms. The dehydration of the forests in Colorado and the forest fires are consistent with climate change. You can say since no one event is provable that dismisses the whole thing, but that’s not very good science.[/box]
