Yesterday in a remarkable hot mic moment, the viewers of News 12 in the Bronx watched anchor Matt Pieper have a daft Ron Burgundy moment when he relayed a message from his producer to a reporter in the field. Only this wasn’t funny. The video was quickly scrubbed from News 12’s website, but not before one viewer uploaded the video seen below.
“And David also wants you to mention that parents who do their f**king job and walk their little kids to school on their own and not rely on everyone else, kind of like people who live on government assistance their entire lives. Well that’s not actually part of government assistance, but how old are these kids?”
Obviously Matt has some pent up hostility for a lot of his viewers who “rely on government assistance” to get their kids to school, even though no such program exists.
Not that a privileged news anchor would know that the average rent throughout Brooklyn increased from $2,599.09 in August 2013 to $2,741.66 in August 2014, or that “government assistance” consists of $146 per month per family member, but we can certainly surmise that Mr. Pieper knows nothing about the people in his audience who do rely on government assistance!
Perhaps News 12 will assign Matt to do a story about living on minimum wage in a city with one of the highest costs of living in the world. Maybe they will go even further and spare the people of Brooklyn and New York City, as a whole, from having to listen to yet another bigoted bloviating ignoramus that has nothing better to do than pick on poor people.
