Someone in Chimes, Arkansas has slaughtered 57 dogs and left others to die in the woods.
It’s a very strange crime, but heartless nonetheless.
Two lumber mill workers were walking through a wooded area that was set to be torn down and made into lumber when they noticed the carcasses of countless dogs strewn throughout the wooded area.
Shelter manager for the Searcy County Humane Society, John Magruder, had this to say about what he saw:
“I don’t really have any words for what it makes me feel like. I’ve worked with dogs all my life and I love them a whole bunch and I just don’t deal well with this, but I’m doing my best so I can save the ones I can.”
Sheriff Joey Pruitt also found it hard to believe that anyone could be so cruel to innocent animals:
“This is my first in 25 years of law enforcement. I’ve never seen anything like this. Systematically just start shooting and just leaving them lying and not even making sure that they’re dead? You know, I just can’t imagine somebody doing that.”
Traces of poison-laced hot dogs were found in the animals’ systems, leading investigators to believe that the dogs were purposely poisoned before they were used for target practice.
Four live dogs were recovered from the woods, and the death rate rests at 57.
Other staffers at the Humane Society are heartbroken by the images they have seen from this incident.
Staffer Jean Passmore said this before breaking down in tears:
“They could have found homes for these dogs. Why? Just why?”
