Yesterday, Washington Times columnist and colossal douchebag Jeffrey Kuhner once again called for anti-Obama civil disobedience, declaring that “Devout Christians are obligated to oppose Obamacare—including those who champion social justice and Universal Healthcare.” This dimwit goes on to give us all the reason: Obamacare uses U.S. taxpayers’ money to pay for abortions for Congress and staff.
“Christians need to engage in peaceful civil disobedience against President Obama’s signature health care law. The reason is simple and macabre: Obamacare enables U.S. taxpayer funds to pay for abortions for members of Congress and their staff. That’s right. Pro-life Christians will be forced to subsidize the slaughter of unborn children.”
Well, no. First off, Congress and staff are not “exempt from Obamacare.” Congress and staff, beginning January first will have to buy their insurance from the exchanges. Secondly, since 1976 we’ve had this little piece of legislation called the Hyde Amendment, which bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortions except in cases of rape and incest—or to save the life of the mother.
As for insurance bought off the exchanges…those policies SURELY will “pay for the abortionist’s knife,” as Kuhner claims…right?
Wrong again! First, consider that part of the Affordable Care Act allows states to “opt out” of offering abortion coverage, period. In fact, fifteen states have already done that (and others are considering it.) In other words, if you don’t like it…don’t do it. In states that do allow abortion coverage, exchanges are required to maintain at least one plan with the same minimum benefits as a competing plan that does offer abortion coverage for those who do not wish it. If that’s not enough, in compliance with the Hyde Amendment, the plans that DO offer abortion coverage must maintain two separate accounts : one account for medical care, and a separate one for abortions that do not result from rape, incest, or the mother’s safety–which must be paid for separately. All federal money would be deposited into the non-abortion account. Gee, Jeff…seems like you don’t quite know what you’re talking about!
Of course, our friend Mr. Kuhner feels that “Progressivism is at war with traditional Christianity.” Liberals want to create a godless society, destroy the family, and live in the delusion that we are not a world that is puppeteered by an invisible magical sky-grandpa. Cut the crap, Jeff! You know what liberals want? We want to live in a society in which your dogmatic squeamishness does not infringe on the rights of others. You’re so quick to cry “Persecution!” while blatantly ignoring that society simply will not put up with your faith-shrouded-bigotry and relentless repression. Fine–Let’s ask the Bible. Why not? Turn to Numbers 5:24-28, please, and let’s see what to do if one suspects his wife is unfaithful.
[box type=”shadow”]24 He shall make the woman drink the bitter water that brings a curse, and this water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering will enter her. 25 The priest is to take from her hands the grain offering for jealousy, wave it before the LORD and bring it to the altar. 26 The priest is then to take a handful of the grain offering as a memorial offering and burn it on the altar; after that, he is to have the woman drink the water. 27 If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. 28 If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.[/box]
That’s right. Abortion is the Biblically-recommended solution to an unfaithful wife. Even your own holy book is against you on this one! At least this way is against the woman’s will…so it’s right up your alley, Jeff!
Of course, as you say:
“Abortion clinics are liberalism’s Gulag Archipelago, death camps scattered across the landscape. For liberals, abortion is key to erecting a society without sexual consequences. If a pregnancy is unwanted, liquidate the baby…It is genocide masquerading as “choice.”
The Gulag? Are you kidding me? You’re comparing abortion clinics to forced labor camps? I have to wonder, Jeff, if you bother to research before you spew forth such verbal diarrhea, or if you just pick things that sound scary. You’re also falsely assuming that Liberals are pro-abortion—being pro-choice is about recognition that a woman has a right to decide what goes on with her body. Genocide? Come on, Jeff!
Now begins Mr. Kuhner’s “victim speech.”
“Christians must wake up before it’s too late. There is a virulent prejudice still acceptable in America: Christophobia. For decades, liberal elites have sought to purge religion from the public square. Prayer has been banned from schools. The Ten Commandments have been taken down from courthouses. Same-sex “marriage” is becoming encoded in law, overturning marriage between a man and a woman as a sacred, unique institution. Pornography is rampant. The family is breaking down. Our culture is obsessed with sexual promiscuity and moral permissiveness. God and Christians are regularly mocked. Even in the military, Christians are now told to remain in the closet.”
That’s right, Christians! “Wake up” to the fact that society is, in ever-increasing numbers rejecting your bullshit. Of course administration-led prayer is not permitted in public schools! “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion” would not mean much if state institutions began acted as propagandists for your faith, would it? The rights of students to lead prayer and form religious clubs has been repeatedly upheld—prayer is far from “banned” in schools. The Ten Commandments have been taken down from courthouses? Oh no—you mean that separation of church and state was maintained? Whatever will we do? Same sex marriage is somehow destroying a sacred bond between straight couples? Churches perform “weddings.” A “marriage” is a piece of paper. Get over it! If Adam and Steve are somehow disrupting the value of your marriage, I hear Steve has a friend he can hook you up with, Jeff.
Christians…mocked? Jeffrey, “Christians” are not mocked. Ignorant, bigoted tools like you are mocked…because you should be.
Of course, Jeff’s excursion into the depths of human ignorance that he calls a column would not be complete without making sweeping assumptions about our Founding Fathers.
“Enough is enough. America is a product of English and Christian civilization. Our Founding Fathers were Christian patriots, who understood that individual liberties stem from a higher power. The most important is the right to life. Christians must declare that their allegiance to their faith transcends that of the ideological, secular state. If Obamacare continues to insist that we subsidize abortion, then it’s time for Christians to march on the streets in peaceful opposition. Mr. Obama is not worth the loss of our souls.”
I hate to beat a dead horse, but let’s take another look at the Treaty of Tripoli, since you apparently have not read it.
That’s right. The United States is “not in any sense founded on the Christian religion.” The Treaty of Tripoli was written under the Presidency of George Washington and signed under John Adams. Washington often spoke in Deistic terms, and Adams felt that “…mystery is made a convenient cover for absurdity.”
Thomas Jefferson has a few words on the subject as well. In a letter dated December 9, 1822 written to James Smith, Jefferson states “The hocus-pocus phantasm of a God like another Cerberus, with one body and three heads, had its birth and growth in the blood of thousands and thousands of martyrs.”
That’s right, Jeff. Our founding fathers would certainly have agreed with you! Sometimes one has to wonder how some of these people manage to find a soapbox.
