We wonder if Glenn Beck will turn his sights on Progresso soup next. That has to be the next step in the right-wing media host’s obsession with all things progressive, and we literally mean the word “progressive.” Apparently even putting that word — which has about six million other applications outside of political ones — into your product name or in any way affiliating with that word is proof that you are part of the same, vast left-wing conspiracy that Beck is convinces is subtly trying to convert us all into mindless robots who are slaves to our “free stuff.”
Last week on his show, Beck went off about a new dishwasher from General Electric that he says the company is touting as “progressive.” We googled “GE Progressive Washer” and got a few links to machines stuck in “progressive mode” but not any specific models named with the word “progressive” in the title. That didn’t stop Beck from insisting that liberals are sneaking that word into the American lexicon little by little, and he said it’s not just GE, but also Valspar paint products that are joining the liberal conspiracy to convert people’s thinking by way of home improvement products.
Beck related the tale of his discovery of a line of Valspar paints that are done in conjunction with National Trust for Historic Preservation — a group you’d think someone who touts themselves as a conservative would be in favor of — that carry some names of their colors that tie in to Woodrow Wilson, one of the American presidents conservatives love to hate. To beck, the fact that Valspar paints now has a color that carries Wilson’s name. “See how they’re embedding the word everywhere, to remind you that ‘progressive’ is a good thing.”
FYI — The word “progressive” is not mentioned at all by Valspar in the advertising or the name of their paints.
