According to Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder (R-Of Course), the proper solution to the situation in Ferguson is to employ “Anglo-American civilization” by reinstating the curfew that the Missouri Governor had previously lifted.
Seriously. He said that.
Following the clashes on Monday night in Ferguson, Kinder told MSNBC that Governor Jay Nixon was wrong to end the curfew, and said that the people of Missouri are “crying out for leadership.” He said added that justice isn’t done in “America through the street,” but that it’s done through “legal processes that are set in motion, designed after centuries of Anglo-American jurisprudence tradition” that are “designed to protect the rights and liberties of everyone involved.”
That “Anglo-American jurisprudence tradition” is doing a fine job of protecting the police officer who was involved. The families and the victims? Not so much.
Kinder said that there was “no question” that race was playing a role in what was happening, however. Even with that in mind, he continued to appeal to “Anglo-American civilization,” saying that “That’s one of the great advances of Anglo-American civilization, is that we do not have politicized trails. We let the justice system work it out.”
