A Vermont couple, Melissa Robitille and Walter Richter, are accused of killing Robitille’s 13-year-old disabled son in a horrific manner — by loading his IV with alcohol.
Isaac Robitille had a number of physical handicaps that required the assistance of caretakers, as well as feeding tubes and IVs to keep him alive. According to police, the couple added alcohol to their son’s IV bag. Police say the child’s mother called 9-1-1 to say that her son was dead on August 22, and that an autopsy report showed the child had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.146 — nearly twice the legal limit for an adult to drive.
“Knowing he had all that to deal with and then parents that would do that, it’s just heartbreaking,” said neighbor Barbara Larabee, who noted that she had not seen the boy in quite a while.
According to Prosecutor Maria Byford, “There’s great evidence of guilt.”
The couple is facing second-degree murder charges.
