It may not be a gigantic victory in the grand scheme, but we won!
Recently, a reader shared with us some concern over Shippensburg Intermediate School’s decision to hold “Duck Dynasty Day” on this approaching Friday as part of the school’s “Spirit Week.”
After we made you wonderful people aware, you apparently responded splendidly (the superintendent’s voicemail was full when we attempted contact). As a result, by 2:00 on Monday afternoon, the person answering the phone at the school told us that the day honoring bigotry, homophobia, and hatred was changed to “All Sports Day.”
We’d like to thank everyone who helped this concerned mother out in her efforts to prevent her child from being indoctrinated into a hateful ideology in the public school system. While they used the “it’s trademarked” excuse, we always considered it unlikely that they would admit that someone on school staff elected to push a bigoted agenda as part of the school day.
It’s your actions to help this mother ensure that her child’s education is not marred by hatred that remind us we have the absolute best readers anywhere!
