No one knows what knowledge lay in the library of Alexandria, what books sit uncatalogued in the Vatican vault, or what treasures remain undiscovered in the storage rooms of The Smithsonian. The internet is a lot like all of these places — an endless archive containing almost everything you’d ever want to know about everything, but so vast in proportion that some important bits of wisdom are bound to get lost in the shuffle. And when they’re found, typically by some scruffy sophomore in his free time, the world is always left asking the same question:
“How th F**K could we NOT have KNOWN this?”
On a recent episode of The Trews, Russell Brand fired back at FOX’s “The Five,” who got very personal after Brand had criticized their take on Ferguson. During the segment, The Five even devolved into mocking Brand’s former marriage to Katy Perry. But as anyone who’s ever been through a broken relationship knows: If there’s one thing you don’t do in an argument, it’s bring up the ex. That’s how things very personal, very quickly. Accordingly Brand, whom they’d earlier called “sophomoric,” returned the blow, with a decidedly personal shot of his own. Not at The Five, but at the personal business of the guy who pays them: Rupert Murdoch.
Time to enter the archives, and let this genie out of its bottle.
Like the mythical, demonic djinn for which it’s named, Genie Energy is an insubstantial entity made of little more than smoke and flame. In fact, the tiny logo above is likely all you will ever see of it — this genie hides in the shadows. It even makes Devil’s deals from a Hellish domain, a place most know as “Newark, New Jersey.”
Genie began as a series of off-shoot investments from New York-based telecomm giant IDT, which was founded by Howard Jonas. Jonas began his career selling hot dogs outside of a Bronx methadone clinic in the 1970s. He then established the nation’s largest junk mail and direct sales business from his dorm room at Harvard. One of his employees was said by some to be an Israeli national and Orthodox Jew; when that employee left Harvard to go back to Israel, he established a sales office for Jonas there. But Jonas found the telephone bills between New York and Israel outrageous, so he came up with a “callback” strategy to cut his long distance charges.
That idea blossomed into a business called IDT, which offered to cut long-distance phone charges by 95 percent. From 1990 to 2004, IDT grew into a cross-border communications powerhouse with heavy connections in Israel. One of them was a billionaire investment banker by the name of Baron Jacob Rothschild — yes, of that Rothschild family.
The Oil Business
In 2004, IDT quietly got into the energy business, establishing two subsidiaries: New York’s IDT Energy, and Genie Oil and Gas. GOGAS itself split into four subsidiaries: American Shale Oil, Genie Energy of Mongolia, Israeli Energy Initiatives and the cryptically named “Afek” — a Hebrew word referring to a number of places in the Biblical era of Israel, including Fiq in modern-day Syria, several settlements in the Golan Heights and the airfield nearby.
In 2006, American Shale Oil (half owned by French petrochemical giant Total S.A.) received a lease from the BLM to commence with fracking operations in Colorado. They were originally slated to use hydraulic fracturing as most do, but have instead pursued thermomechanical fracturing. Similar in principle, but using heat instead of hydraulic pressure.
(On September 6th, 2007, Israel initiated Operation Orchard — the strategic bombing of targets in Syria, near the Golan Heights.)
In 2008, Genie subsidiary Israel Energy Initiatives was created to begin the same fracking operations in Israel’s fertile Shefala region, the lowland of south-central Israel known for its rolling foothills and deep connection to Biblical history.
In 2010, Lord Rothschild and Rupert Murdoch, got into the Israeli energy business. Unknown to many, the two billionaires were already partners on the media industry. Murdoch obviously owns FOX, while Rothschild and Murdoch co-own BskyB. This is the parent company of Britain’s SKY network, which (as Russell Brand himself has pointed out in the past) is England’s equivalent of FOX. The two are nearly identical, pushing the same right-wing agendas on both sides of The Pond.
Rothschild and Murdoch were quick to jump on the opportunity, considering the stakes involved in the recent (but quiet) discovery of huge shale oil supplies in Israel. How big?
At least 300 billion barrels of oil at $40 a barrel. It was estimated at the time that using thermomechanical fracking, Israel could become an oil powerhouse easily rivaling Saudi Arabia.
In 2011, one year later, IDT spun off Genie Energy to its shareholders, primarily Howard Jonas, and conservative media tycoons Jacob Rothschild and Rupert Murdoch. On its advisory board would land a familiar name:
Almost immediately afterward, Genie began looking into the Golan Heights. In February of 2013, Genie subsidiary Afek was awarded an exclusive 36-month license to start drilling exploratory wells in a 153-square-mile area of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights — in Syria.
(Israel almost immediately begins intense bombardment of Syria, launching no less than five major bombing offenses between February and October of 2013.)
Former vice-president Cheney, who had access to the highest level of intelligence regarding Syria available all the way through 2008, the man who’d driven our nation to war for oil once before under false pretenses, continued to advise.
Fair and Balanced
And, so here we are. Now, in 2014, with Israel still bombing Syria, FOX and SKY still spoiling for war to retain Murdoch/Rothschild’s oil shale deposits in Golan Heights, and a few billionaires set to make a killing from all of it. It’s also probably safe to assume Dick Cheney’s a stockholder, especially since the company went public two years ago. Nevermind shilling for Israel, nevermind protecting fracking operations and oil suppliers — FOX has now officially become one of them.
Fair and balanced, all right.
In closing, we’ll leave you with these — a few quotes from FOX and its talking heads, including Murdoch/Rothschild’s business partner, Dick Cheney, stoking the smoke and flame of war rising like a djinn from its bottle. There’s a Devil’s deal in the works — sold for the souls of Israel, Dick Cheney, Jacob Rothschild and Rupert Murdoch.
And it took a scruffy sophomore to notice.
“So it is left to the United States and its allies to try to impose some sense of justice on the planet. The sad truth is we cannot do it any longer. The USA is too weak and it pains me to say that. It’s too weak to even take care of a cheap thug like Assad…Now, for the consequences of doing nothing. Terrorists will once again see the world is not courageous enough to right grievous wrongs so terrorism will expand.“
— Bill O’Reilly, September 9th, 2013. Approximately three months after oil shale confirmed in the Golan Heights.
“As this is happening, I am a little shocked at Secretary of State Kerry’s admonition for Israel to constantly show restraint. What is your reaction to that, considering – what, now 1600 rockets have been fired into Israel? Where is the source of this weaponry? Is it Syria, is it Iran and what do you do about the ultimate source here? Do you not have to go to the source to prevent this from happening in the future?“
— Sean Hannity, July 22, 2014
“ISIS could be their magnet, a roach motel that attracts the very worst of this planet where they die in large groups…If they gather in [Iraq and Syria], it will be that much easier to obliterate them.” But “Every time we say ‘no boots on the ground,’ you can hear their boots right behind us.”
— Greg Gutfeld, August 14th, 2014. In reference to pro-ISIs leaflets handed out in London, recruiting people to Iraq and Syria.
“[A larger attack than 9/11] would obviously be a terrible development. But magnify that a million times over, because that’s what’s in store for the rest of the world if we don’t deal effectively with [ISIS in Syria and Iraq].”
— Dick Cheney, warmongering for oil.
The lesson here: Don’t mention the ex.
