A Texas woman turned into the goddamn Hulk to rescue a baby trapped inside a hot car in a H-E-B grocery parking lot. Angela Radtke broke a car window to reach the baby and remove the little boy from the vehicle.
After H-E-B staff attempted to reach the parents through a loudspeaker, Radtke took matters into her own hands. She says many feared repercussions if they took measures to rescue the child, and that she was warned by a security guard that she could face charges if she broke the window, but she did not care — she was getting that baby out of there.
“I felt like some people were kind of scared, they didn’t want to be liable because the security guard was yelling that I could possibly be arrested for breaking the window,” she said. However, her primary concern was the child “I don’t care if I get arrested,” Radtke said. “I’m going to save this baby.”
Radtke fought through the pain of the cuts she sustained on her arms, legs, and back as she climbed through a new entrance she made in the windshield by smashing it in with a tire iron. “It scraped up my arms and legs and back a little bit,” Radtke said.
She said that when she pulled the child out of the vehicle, he was red-faced and had a fever.
H-E-B security footage revealed that the child was locked in the car for over 40 minutes before Radtke heroically rescued the baby. The boy was taken to Methodist Children’s Hospital and treated for dehydration, then placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
The boy’s father told law enforcement that he had forgotten his son was in the car. He was arrested and faces charges of child endangerment. At the time of the incident, the boy’s mother was at home.
Concerns that Radtke may face charges were quickly dispelled thanks to a “good Samaritan law.” She was questioned, and released without any charges.
