In many cases of true horror, it’s sometimes harder to say which is worse: The act itself, or how other people react to it. We’ll recount both here, and you can decide for yourself. One is the tragic story of Mississippi’s Jessica Chambers; the other is a listing of responses to this tragedy from a single Tea Party-type Conservative Facebook page called “I Will Not Vote for Obama 2012.”
Jessica Chambers, pictured above, was 19 years old when she was brutally murdered in Courtland Mississippi on Saturday night. She had recently graduated high school, and was planning on going to college. The facts are still emerging, but here’s what we know so far.
Ali Fadel was a gas station attendant who worked near Jessica’s home. Every day, Jessica would stop there, and put $5 in gas in her car and chat with Ali. That day, Jessica put $14 in gas in her car. Ali noticed, and asked her why so much gas. She cryptically replied “I’m going somewhere.”
She got a call on her cell phone as she walked out the door, smiling and waving to the caller outside. A man in a striped shirt was standing by her car outside, filling up a gas can. He looks to be black from the footage, but it’s difficult to tell.
She went over to speak to him, then returned to the store to buy a pack of cigarettes.
She left heading South, down a dark Mississippi back road. The man in the striped shirt walked the same direction.
About 90 minutes later, police responded to a call about a fire raging off of that same road. When they arrived, they found the burning wreckage of Jessica’s car…and something from the reels of a horror film. The girl was staggering around in the road next to the car, every inch of her body burned apart from the soles of her feet.
She collapsed in the road, uttering something to police before passing out. A helicopter arrived to rush her to the hospital, but she passed away en route.
The autopsy afterward revealed something far worse than police suspected initially. They discovered Jessica had been doused with gasoline, with more gas poured down her throat. As had the car. Someone had intentionally set Jessica and the car on fire with the intent of murdering her; and they succeeded. The man in the striped shirt was nowhere to be found.
Immediately, a new firestorm erupted. Jessica’s friends posted to Facebook immediately, accusing one of her ex-boyfriends of the murder. Jessica had had a fairly active social life, and seemed to prefer black men. Contrary to popular belief, Jessica was not dating anyone at the time. But her friends posted this picture of an ex-boyfriend to show what kind of “social life” Jessica had:
Her friends also posted that they were “100 percent positive” police had a black male in custody for her murder; but that turned out to be false as well. Police haven’t announced any arrests for the murder, and they’re still asking for information on the identity of the man in the striped shirt.
Friends and family speculate that the murderer was an ex-boyfriend. Just days before the murder, Jessica’s aunt wrote a letter stating something to the effect that “he wasn’t worth the tears.” And murder by ex is indeed possible here; statistically, women are murdered more often by former and current intimate partners than anyone else.
However, again…police know the identities of all of Jessica’s exes, and they’re still looking for clues, asking for information and looking for DNA. There’s been no word yet on what her last words were to police. Police say they know what she was trying to say to them, but aren’t saying anything else on the matter. It’s probably safe to assume, though, it wasn’t the name of anyone they could identify, since no one is yet officially named as a suspect.
This could have been a case of murder by a jealous ex, and she secretly was fleeing from him with the man in the striped shirt.
It could have been the man in the striped shirt himself. Police haven’t located or identified him yet, but he isn’t likely any of Jessica’s exes.
Or…it could have been a bunch of Mississippi white boys, found that black girl with a negra on a back road, and decided to take opportunity as presented.
But no matter the case, our Tea Party friends seemed to have the case all wrapped up. No, this has nothing to do with domestic violence, or ex-boyfriend violence…which accounts for more than 90 percent of all women murdered by a man of any race in the United States in the last 100 years. No, this has nothing to do with male-on-female violence. It’s black-on-white violence. Simply the inevitable result of Jessica being a coal-smoking mudshark.
And she deserved what she got.
Now, we want to emphasize something before posting these screenshots; reactions to the brutal murder of Jessica Chambers. These were not taken from the pages of League of the South, the White Knights of the Confederacy, or the Aryan Nation. Those places, you’d expect a certain kind of reaction, and write it off as such.
No, these screenshot were taken from the comments section of “I Will Not Vote for Obama 2012,” a Tea Party conservative page founded in 2011. The name of the page seems innocuous enough, and there was a time when it more or less was -by Tea Party standards, anyway. In 2012, it wasn’t much more than a standard right-leaning Pro-Republican
But since 2012, and the bitter loss of another election, this page has been so consumed by the bitterness of its members that it’s all but become a white supremacist message board. Especially since Ferguson, Garner ect. Literally every, single post from the last three months details crimes committed by blacks against whites, or contains the words “thugs” or “animals” in conjunction with Mike Brown or Ferguson protesters. Darren Wilson supporters? Oh, you bet’cha.
Now, all that being said…
Here’s a representative sampling of the comments from one post on this page of totally not racist “patriots,” who support the Tea Party entirely for its stance on fiscal responsibility.
WARNING: You may at some point feel inclined to exclaim “Holy Sh*t! People really say that?” Don’t worry, this is a completely normal reaction. It proves you’re still sane, and not one of the vile, sickening monsters who would say exactly these kinds of things about an innocent and brutally murdered girl.
Here’s your standard conservative perspective: blacks and whites are two different species. Define “dehumanization.”
Cue stereotype: Whites have jobs, blacks are all unemployed and living on welfare.
This one’s less interesting for the original post than for Joy’s response further down. No, Joy…we can’t imagine why people might get the impression Tea Partiers are racist. Except for this entire article.
Victim Blaming 101.
So, the victim deserved it, and kill the perpetrator? We’re starting to get the impression Tea Partiers just don’t like “race traitors.” John’s reply is interesting, since he obliquely refers to Jessica’s killer as a “n*gger” by his definition. For all anybody knows, even if the killer was black, he could have been a Wall Street stock broker with a Bugatti in the garage. Oh, wait…that’s just a “rich n*gger.” Nevermind.
The ultimate sin: RACE MIXING. Because God knows there aren’t enough white people in the world to sustain the population. Or a reason for sustaining it, judging by these people.
Remember ladies: White men never kill women out of jealousy, beat them or tell them what to do. Oh, wait…Bible.
So, if blacks are dogs with fleas, whites would be…cats?
The only argument here seems to be “how her killer should be tortured to death” vs “does anyone even have a right to be upset?”
Interesting psychological note: Males who feel they can’t compete well enough to win a woman’s affections will often denigrate her as a prostitute or promiscuous, because he doesn’t have a chance of hooking up with her. Feeling a bit sexually threatened by the black man, Johnny?
Actually, the biggest thrill for a black man, employed or not, would probably be to slap Bill across the face in front of his mama.
Uhhh…no. That actually isn’t true at all. Just saying.
Ever wonder what happens when a Tea Partier actually speaks reason to one of their own? The words “reactionary cannibalism” come to mind.
Yeah…this one really isn’t that objectively funny, even as racist one-liners go. Still, might make Letterman if Colbert weren’t replacing him.
Actually, they were slaves 150 years ago, and the last Confederate slave died in the 1980s. Seriously; while we were listening to Duran Duran, there was a guy alive who remembered being sold as human property. In America.
Yep. Because white guys never murder their exes. Actually, we do…we just tend to murder our entire families along with them.
This is America. Everybody’s racist. But some peoples’ racism matters more than others.
First…there’s a “hood” in Courtland, Mississippi? Well, of course there are hoods there, but they’re the kind of “hoods” white people usually wear while hanging black people. Second: “Rude, persistent manner?” That’s pretty personnally evaluative, considering police have no clue who killed her. Let alone what his manner was with the ladies. Third: Joy attempts to be the voice of reason again. Same result.
Well, to be fair, we usually do have nicer neighborhoods. Burning down Ferguson is one thing, but our nice little three-bed ranch in the suburbs just got new hydrangea bushes. We can burn it down in protest next time.
And finally…we posted one of our own:
