If you are on social media, no doubt you have seen the hashtag #ChrisMintz. But what you may not know is the heroic tale behind this man’s sudden popularity.
For once, America is publicizing the right aspects of the crime. Some officials are promising to never speak the name of the shooter in order to take away any notoriety he may have been seeking in committing these brutal acts.
But the media storm surrounding the shooting at the Oregon community college yesterday, is at its peak.
What we have now learned is that there was a hero inside the building when the shooting began. That hero heard the gunfire and went toward it, after calming his classmates.
He met the shooter at the door and asked him to reconsider his actions. The shooter then shot Mintz three times.
Chris’ Aunt, Wanda Mintz told KCPQ:
“(He) hit the floor, looks up at gunman, and says, ‘It’s my son’s birthday today.’ (And he) gets shot two more times.”
At some point, Chris Mintz received two more bullet wounds, but somehow survived being shot 7 times.
This superhero is not only bullet proof, but also a ten year veteran of the Army, who recently moved to Oregon from North Carolina to be near his son.
Messages of appreciation have been appearing everywhere on social media:
And in a post to Facebook just 10 days before he would put his life on the line to stop a mass murder, Mintz wrote almost prophetically:
This morning a friend of Chris Mintz released a statement via Mintz’s Facebook page. Chris asked his friend to post this to his fans:
Thank you, Soldier, for the bravery you showed yesterday. The world will never forget you, or the mark you made in history on October, 1st, 2015. HOOAH!
