A contestant from the U.K.’s version of The Apprentice, Katie Hopkins, went on a bizarre and vile anti-working class rant during her appearance on a British morning talk show last week, proclaiming that certain monikers are a red flag that some children are not worthy of playing with her own. Tyler, Charmain, Kylie and Chantal all made her list as well as names rooted in geography like “London” or “Brooklyn,” even though her own daughter’s name is “India”!
One of the show’s co-host Anna May Mangan put Hopkins in her place, saying,
“This is snot-worthy, Katie. I just cannot believe that you’re such an insufferable snob.”
Later Mangan pointed out that Hopkins’s refusal to expose her kids to diversity is “really robbing your children of the chance to become decent human beings.”
When confronted about her snobbery, Hopkins seemed defensive, insisting she was just saying what other people won’t admit–even going so far as to claim other parents whisper to her, “I wouldn’t say it, but that’s what I do too.”
