Inkster, Michigan police told WXYZ that three people were shot when a lone gunman walked up outside of an apartment building and opened fire into the building. A two-year-old girl was killed, a 12-year-old girl is in critical condition, and the condition of the third victim, a 34-year-old man, is unknown.
Witnesses say that one of the girls was hit in the head and the stomach, and that the other was hit in the stomach. On Tuesday, Michigan police held a press conference to announce that they’d caught the shooter:
At a news conference, police say the suspect in Tuesday’s shooting was taken into custody at a girlfriend’s house in Brownstown Township.
Two-year-old Kamiya LaShawn Gross was killed and a 12-year-old girl named Chelsea was critically injured in Tuesday’s triple shooting in Inkster.
Kamiya was hit in the head. Chelsea is described as a relative. She was hit multiple times and is currently in stable condition.
The third victim is 34-year-old Kenny French, who was also hit multiple times. Police say he is Kamiya’s father and that information he provided, along with information from other witnesses, led to the arrest of the suspect.
Officers say French was also involved in the April shooting. However, officers would not say if he was the shooter in that incident.
Both state and local police responded the shooting, and police believe it’s possible that the lone gunman fled the scene in a white Hyundai. Initial reports suggested that he ran from the scene of the shooting on foot.
