Three years ago tomorrow, America was brought to its knees by a lone-gunman’s savage execution of 20 children and 6 staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.
Since that tragic day, congress has done absolutely nothing in regards to gun control.
All the laws that applied that day, apply still today.
There are still zero laws surrounding gun ownership for people living with mentally ill persons.
As we know now, the gunman was a deranged young man who broke into his mother’s gun safe and stole the weapons she kept for “protection” before murdering her with them.
Adam Lanza’s mother should never have been able to purchase guns legally because of the mental state of the young adult living under her roof.
Regardless, these 18 kids around age 6, would be around age 9 now.
According to Raw Story:
“One year ago, family members of some Sandy Hook victims filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Bushmaster, the manufacturer of the rifle used by the gunman, Adam Lanza. In October, the lawsuit was moved from federal court back to state court, where it may have a better chance of succeeding.”
The lawyer for the victims’ families says that the AR-15 used to brutally murder 26 people that day was military grade, and holds no purpose for private ownership other than the “cuz I can” reasoning we’ve been hearing.
Weapons manufacturer, Remington, says this is untrue and that everyone should have the right to own high-powered volatile weapons in today’s mass murdering society.
It’s your constitutional right after all, so it must be allowed no matter how many people die because of it.
Adam Skaggs, an attorney for the gun control advocacy group, Everytown for Gun Safety, said this:
“There is certainly cause for optimism that the stranglehold that the gun lobby held in American politics for a number of years may be weakening.”
“They’re facing new and better organized opposition in states around the country where they try to impose their agenda.”
A total of 23 executive orders were given by President Obama after Sandy Hook.
Those executive actions placed a ban on automatic weapons, limited magazines to 10 bullets, introduced background checks for potential gun buyers, and scrutinized mental health patients and their surroundings.
These efforts were of course fought tooth and nail by Republicans who would rather watch the country burn than have Obama get credit for bettering it.
Every single effort made by the president to enforce gun control after Sandy Hook, died in congress.
Meanwhile Americans had to start telling themselves that Sandy Hook was a hoax just to get through the day.
When will enough be enough?
